With intervene I was interested in the shape and scale of the galleries space and how it was reciprocal to my personal scale and form. When I entered the gallery I was immediately drawn to its architecture and how certain elements typical a gallery but others began to function in an absurd way. I was immediately interested in the metal grid that is suspended from the ceiling and decided to have that inform how the rest of the installation functioned. While noticing the architecture I also began to take note on how I moved within the space both physically and visually. I then started to think about how I wanted to disrupt the natural rhythm of the space and create a new path or flow to the space. I wanted the installation to disrupt instead of organize. I am trying to accomplish a reinterpretation of preexisting architecture with sarcasm and disorientation through subtle and dramatic moments created with basic media. I like the surprise in the midst of the familiar. The degree to which the surrounding environment frames my work and establishes a form of contingency that can have an impact on how the work is understood. It is also not just the objects and surrounding space, but the body of the viewer as well that can help to enhance the experience and understanding of this space.
